I had the 3 hour glucose test yesterday bright and early (8:30 am). I had to go completely fasting and drink a higher concentration of sugar water. The nurse told me that if I felt sick she had a cold dark room I could go and lay down in. I thought I was fine until 30 minutes had passed and I had a pounding headache and felt sick to my stomach (Hello 1st trimester is over). I finally asked if I could go back into the room. I spent the rest of the test trying not to be sick. They take your blood sugar four times, one at the beginning of the test and then three more every hour for three hours. If two of the three glucose levels come back over the limit during the test then you have gestational diabetes. I failed one big time, one was right on the threshold, and one was one point over. The nurse wasn't sure that the doctor would refer me to the diabetic clinic because I was technically on the threshold. The doctor called me and he did refer me so while Robert and I move today, I have to keep an ear out for my phone so I can talk to the specialist and the diabetic clinic.
I'm mostly scared for the baby. I don't want him to be hurt by this, I feel like I've failed him. The doctor and nurse told me that the cause of GD is unknown and that you can have it with one pregnancy and not others - there's no rhyme or reason to it. Still, this is just one more thing to deal with on top of Law School and the pregnancy itself and one more risk to the baby. I also don't want to actually get diabetes. Having GD makes it more likely that you'll get real diabetes later in life. On that cheerful note I get to go move now.

Hey Nat! How stressful?! You will make it through and then have a beautiful baby!!
Hope your move goes well!
Nats,
It will all be fine! You will make a great mommy, now and forever. Just take it easy and do what the doctors say. Try not to stress yourself out. If you need anything, please call me.
Love,
Jennifer
YOu are in my prayers (and the baby too!). I have taken care of lots of babies who had mom's with GD. You will be monitored closely, but the baby is usually fine. The only thing is they are usually big babies. So start doing your pelvic exercises to help with delivering a big baby and lifting weights to get ready to carry him around. Sometimes the baby has low blood sugar after birth when born to a mom with GD. But the nurses in the nursery should check it and if a little low they may have to give a bottle right then in the nursery. That does the trick. He will be fine and healthy. Just take extra care of yourself!
Hi Doll, I put your name on the prayer roll at the Temple today! I will be praying for you, the baby and Robert. All will be well. Take care of yourself! Love you Auntie
