Week Two

Week two has not gone as well. John has been great. He is a little more fussy and is having more "awake" time between naps. He loves to cuddle right before he goes to sleep. He hates being cold. When we change his diaper he cries because he is cold (although now he is starting to realize that it's temporary and we will put his pants back on). He used to cry all during bath time but not anymore. Once he's in the water he's fine because it's warm; he screams when we take him out until his clothes are on and he's swaddled and being held. I don't blame him I don't like being cold either.

Week two has not gone as well because I got sick. I have an infection that I probably caught in the hospital. The doctor kept asking me how long I felt sick. I wanted to say "hello, I had a baby two weeks ago, that's how long I've been feeling sick and gross." The past three days I have been really sick. Flu-like symptoms and everything. Robert was in class yesterday and had work after class, but I called him during class and told him to come home. He took my temperature - 102 degrees. We found a babysitter for John while Robert took me to the doctor. I felt so horrible I went in my pajamas and a blanket (summer pajamas no less because I kept getting the chills then 10 minutes later I would sweat like I was at the gym); the sad thing is, I didn't care how I looked because I felt so horrible. My temperature was 103 when I got there. They spent the next four hours running tests to figure out what was wrong. They finally gave me a shot of antibiotics (Robert said it was a 2 inch needle) in my hip and told me to come back in the morning. Brian watched John this morning and we were there when they opened at 8 o'clock. My fever was down as were my blood pressure, and heart rate. They ran more tests which confirmed that I had an infection and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. I've been sleeping, picking up, and doing laundry.

Robert has been absolutely wonderful. He has been up with John the last three nights (we usually tag team it) because I've been sick and has been great taking care of me. I am so thankful for my wonderful husband. I am also thankful for my son who was really good for his babysitters. I am also thankful for Brian and Lorena who watched John on such short notice; we couldn't have done it without you.

I'm so glad you are on the mend and they figured out what was going on. That nurse in the hospital was right: you were supposed to have an IV antibiotic before you were discharged last week. At least they figured it out now. I'll call you later.

Natalie. You poor thing! I'm glad little John is doing ok and is loving his baths now, I'm just sorry you feel so terrible. This too shall pass.
